Questions and Answers Regarding Billing

  • Our emergency medical service operations rely heavily on financial support from our patients,

donors, and municipal donations from communities we serve. In the State of New Jersey

Emergency Medical Services is considered a “Non-Essential” service and not funded directly from

your tax dollars. The Milford-Holland Rescue Squad is a non-profit organization (501c3) serving the

area since 1936. The bill you received in the mail is because Milford-Holland Rescue Squad, Inc.

(MHRS) provided emergency services during your time of need. You should submit this bill to any

insurance provider you may have, if we have not already received that information.

  • Volunteers make up part of our membership, however, our professional career staff help to supplement

our ambulance staffing when volunteers are unavailable. One hundred Percent of the billing income we

receive goes to cover costs of professional career staff salaries, insurance, workers

compensation, etc. The charges you receive help ensure there is always a staffed, equipped, and ready

to respond an Ambulance to answer your call for help.

secondary insurance cards with you when you make the call.

    Po Box 949

    Matawan, NJ 07747

  • Please call our Billing Department directly at 1-844-232-3682 to discuss.

  • Please contact our Billing Department at 1-844-232-3682. Note that any outstanding bill not

covered by Medicare will be reduced by MHRS to the standard Medicare rates.

  • Some insurance companies will pay their subscribers, you, directly for the services provided by

our organization. Those payments should be used to offset your outstanding balance, by endorsing

the check to Milford-Holland Rescue Squad, Inc. and sending payment to:

    Milford-Holland Rescue Squad, Inc

    Po Box 949

    Matawan, NJ 07747

  • Patients who live outside of the Milford-Holland Rescue Squad primary response area who do not

supply insurance information, do not pay their outstanding balance, or receive reimbursement

directly from their Insurance Company and did not forward those payments to our department to

offset the costs in the service provided to you, will receive a notice from a Collection Agency. In that

case, please contact the collection agency USCB directly at 1-800-499-0309 or

help@uscbcorporation.biz to make arrangements to pay your outstanding balance.

  • MHRS reviews our base rates at least annually, and may make adjustments at any time. Our

current BLS Emergency Transport rate is $1,200.00, plus $20.00 per mile charge. These are

consistent with the industry, local surrounding EMS partners, and are again used to help offset the

costs of our service. Additional fees may be applied for specialized services such as extrication,

rescue or advanced life support. Medical Insurance companies do not set the rates for BLS

transports as they are based solely on the costs to provide the service.

  • Advanced Life Support, or ALS Service, is provided by the Hunterdon Medical Center Mobile

Intensive Care Unit for most of our call area. Depending on your insurance coverage, you may

receive one combined bill, or two separate bills for the services provided by each agency.

  • Patients who receive care from a responding Emergency Medical Ambulance, but then decline

transportation by the BLS Ambulance to the Hospital for follow up care, will receive a $250 bill for

service. This helps ensure replacement of equipment used, as well as ensuring a staffed, equipped,

ready to respond ambulance was available to respond for your medical emergency.
